Please find information below about the costs associated with surgical procedures at GIA.
We hope to be able to provide you with some transparency surrounding the financial commitment of surgery. Allowing you to have clarity and feel well informed about those costs, prior to undergoing your procedure.
We appreciate pursuing your surgical goals requires significant financial commitment and understand that this can sometimes result in feeling stressed, confused or overwhelmed. Please don’t hesitate to contact us via email or phone to discuss any aspect of this information further.
Consultation fees
We offer both Telehealth and in-person appointments. Dr. Farmer believes that a minimum of 2 consultations are essential before undergoing a surgical procedure.
Initial Consultation: $300 (Medicare rebate: $84.15) / Second Consultation: $300 (Medicare Rebate: $42.30).
All consultations are scheduled for 45 minutes and are charged to you at $300 per appointment. This amount is to be paid, in full, on the day you attend GIA. A variable Medicare rebate is applicable for each of these visits, paid into your account by Medicare, reducing your out of pocket cost. Medicare claims can be submitted through your MyGov account.
For Telehealth calls we require payment to be finalised 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. This payment can be made by bank transfer or over the phone using a credit card.
Once an appointment time is confirmed we will send a payment invoice. We ask that you provide a payment receipt. Once payment is completed a link to access the Telehealth call will be sent, along with an invoice for submission to Medicare to secure your rebate.
Surgical Fees
Surgical fees will be provided through a formal quote, sent via email following your initial appointment should you choose to move forward with surgery.
This formal quote will provide you with the Medicare Item numbers associated with your surgery so you can confirm your private health cover as applicable.
These fees are based on the surgery you have chosen to undertake and will vary according to the complexity and duration of the procedure. This surgical fee does not include fees for Anaesthetic services or Hospital stay.
There will be no charge for standard post operative visits for a period of 6 months following your surgery. Any additional visits will incur a follow up fee of $150, unless otherwise advised by Dr. Farmer.
Please note, a fee may be applicable for special dressings as required or for visits not considered ‘normal aftercare’.
This surgical fee may be eligible for a Medicare, and where applicable, private health fund rebate. This estimated rebate will be provided in your formal quote.
Please note, should your procedure include elements considered ‘cosmetic’, Medicare and private health fund rebates will not apply.
Payment of Surgical Fees
Once a suitable date for your surgery has been selected and agreed upon with GIA, we ask that you provide a deposit amount of 10% of the total surgical fee. This deposit secures your surgical date.
The remaining balance is to be paid in full 10 days prior to your surgery.
Should you choose to cancel your surgery less than 21 days prior to the scheduled date, this deposit will be forfeited. Cancellations made outside of this 21-day period will be refunded in full.
We understand the decision to have surgery is a significant one and that plans can change, please communicate with GIA as soon as possible if you believe that you will no longer be able to attend your procedure as scheduled. We will do our best to reschedule or accommodate changes where possible. In the case of illness prior to a surgical procedure, please reach out to GIA so that we can make alternative arrangements as needed. Rescheduling your operation will not result in you losing your deposit.
Anaesthetic Fees
The formal quote you receive from GIA will include a quote for anaesthetic services provided to us for your specific procedure, outlining the associated costs.
Anaesthetic fees may have an associated Medicare Rebate and this information will be provided within the quote.
Should you hold private health insurance, you may receive a rebate for anaesthetic costs This will be determined by your health fund based on your level of cover. We will provide your private health fund details to the anaesthetist and they will calculate the associated rebate for your fund.
This anaesthetic fee will be billed by the anaesthetic service.
Hospital Fees
Uninsured Hospital Fees:
There will be a fee for your hospital stay, overnight or day surgery. We will secure a quote for your specific procedure from the hospital and this amount will be included in the formal quote provided to you by GIA.
This fee is to be paid to the hospital directly, either in advance or on the day of your surgery based on the payment requirements outlined by the hospital.
Insured Hospital Fees:
If you have private health cover, your fund will likely have an agreed hospital excess (dependent on your level of cover). This excess is to be paid at the hospital on the day of your surgery.
There may be additional costs associated with your hospital stay based on your level of private health cover. You should confirm these details with your fund prior to the date of your procedure.
Cosmetic procedures will not be covered by private health and will require payment for any associated hospital stay, in full.
Medicare and Health Fund Rebates
Medically indicated procedures are eligible for a Medicare rebate.
Should you also have private health insurance, your fund will also provide a rebate on associated Medicare item numbers.
The formal quote you receive from GIA will provide an estimated Medicare (and applicable private health fund) rebate for your surgery.
Cosmetic procedures are not eligible for Medicare or private health fund rebates.
