Orchiectomy

book consultation

about

An orchiectomy is the removal of both testes via a small incision made in the midline of the scrotum. It can be done as a stand-alone procedure to simplify hormone regimens and assist in gender congruence or in association with a vaginoplasty.

Typically the scrotal skin is left behind in case it may be needed in the future for a gender-affirming vaginoplasty or vulvoplasty, but if there is no desire for these procedures then the skin can also be removed.

What to expect:
  • Procedure time: 60-90 minutes
  • Results: Immediate
  • Anaesthetic: General or regional
  • Hospital stay: Overnight stay
  • Recovery: Majority of recovery occurs in first 1-2 weeks, physical activity is limited for first 6 weeks
