A scrotoplasty involves rearranging labia majora skin into a sack-like pocket at the base of a phalloplasty or metoidioplasty. Testicular implants are small, soft, egg-shaped silicone Implants, placed deep underneath the skin, in this newly formed pocket, following healing.
At GIA, testicular implants are placed one at a time, to reduce the risk of complications (mainly exposure to the implant). This gives the skin time to heal and relax. Patients undergoing metoidioplasty can often have a single-sided implant placed during the procedure, with the next being placed three months later. Patients who have a phalloplasty typically don’t have any implants placed in the initial operation, with each implant placement spaced out by approximately three months.
