about

Gender-affirming top surgery is a common term for a variety of procedures that can alleviate gender dysphoria and enhance gender congruence. Masculinising top surgery typically involves a mastectomy, with variations in the design of the scars and handling of the nipple-areolar complex based on individual anatomy and preferences. Liposuction is also commonly used to create a flatter and more defined chest. In very limited cases, where there is little breast tissue, liposuction alone can be used effectively.

At GIA, we perform the following types of masculinising chest surgery:

Periareolar (‘key hole’, when breast volume is small and the areolar is small)
Circumareolar incisions (small volume breasts with medium to large areolar)
Double incision with or without nipple grafts (large breasts, excess skin)

What to expect:
  • Procedure time: From 2-3 hours
  • Results: 2-3 weeks
  • Anaesthetic: General Anaesthetic
  • Hospital stay: Overnight
  • Local stay: 1 week for double incision with nipple graft. Otherwise 4 days
