A gender-affirming vaginoplasty (with a vaginal canal) can be a powerful procedure for reducing genital incongruence and dysphoria. Both vaginoplasty and vulvoplasty surgery involve the deconstruction and alteration of the components of the existing genitalia and the creation of a functional and aesthetically pleasing vulva. Externally the result for a Vaginoplasty and Vulvoplasty are the same, however a Vaginoplasty involves the creation of a vaginal canal. An orchiectomy (removal of both testes) is also performed during this operation if it has not been done previously.
GIA is home to highly trained vaginoplasty surgeons; we create an individually tailored surgical plan that will best accomplish your desired goals. Depending on each patient's characteristics, a range of techniques can be employed to achieve aesthetically pleasing and functional genitalia, particularly concerning the lining of the vaginal canal.
In patients with insufficient penile length for a penile inversion vaginoplasty, or where a significant preference exists for a particular procedure, the length can be augmented using techniques such as:
Use of grafts (scrotal or tunica vaginalis)
Peritoneal pull-through (PPT)
Colonovaginoplasty
